Under the direction of the Steward Medical Group Vice President, the Anesthesia Manager leads and manages the operational activities for assigned sections/modalities, locations, and support areas. While the range of duties and responsibilities is broad and varied, the position’s major responsibilities are managing all day-to-day operations including the delivery of care, human resource management, capital and operational budgeting, equipment oversight, financial management, and performance improvement activities. In addition, the Anesthesia Business Manager will lead the coordination of the strategy and implementation for the service line with hospital and SMG leadership. The individual maintains collaborative multi-disciplinary relationships within and outside of the medical group. The individual participates as an important member of the practice’s management team to address and resolve broad management/administrative issues such as planning for future programs and services, procedure coding and revenue capture, cost monitoring and control, patient scheduling, patient and staff safety, workflows, operational monitoring, regulatory compliance, public relations and the overall timeliness and quality of services provided to customers in across the service line. The Manager consults and collaborates with other members of leadership to ensure the effective integration of strategic objectives, performance management, quality and improvement and technological performance. |
Key Responsibilities |
- Provides senior level administrative oversight and business management support for all practice management-related issues impacting the service line, including imaging strategy, contractual relationships, new service feasibility, response to Request for Proposals and new site start-ups, strategic partnerships, and staffing analyses
- Works with local and regional Hospital administration on planning, organizing, and directing anesthesia services operations and ensuring compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.
- In conjunction with hospital and SMG leadership, executes medical area, regional specific implementation plans for all imaging projects in assigned area.
- Oversees practice financial performance and ensures real-time financial information is available to the operating units, physician leadership, and administrative leadership
- Development and monitoring of operational performance standards for internal and external operations
- Reviews internal and external business operations, market conditions, health plan activity and reimbursement models, information transfer, and other key operational indicators
- Develop optimal physician staffing models to meet operational needs and budgetary constraints.
- Responsible for reviewing benchmark data and making appropriate changes to improve performance.
- Administers the physician compensation plan to drive operational and financial performance of the practice.
- Provides senior-level administrative oversight and support for the development of other specialty business ventures and/or independent companies
- Provides direct on-site and remote administrative support as needed to ensure proper coordination of various business activities of the practice
- Maintains regular communication between practice and local and regional leadership on important operational and strategic matters
- Participates and stays actively engaged in both local and national hospital-based specialty related trends, business community, and related activities
- Develops and implements plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes, and personnel designed to accommodate the rapid growth objectives of the practice
- Coordinates the strategic planning, practice governance, business development activities, financial management, and policy enforcement
- Meets with practices’ non-physician employees on a regular basis to review trends and progress, to share information relative to progression of goals, and to facilitate strong lines of communication throughout all areas of the Division
- Key liaison with various hospital/site physician leaders and key hospital administrators to represent and promote practice’s business affairs for the service line
- Oversees practice’s monthly, quarterly, and annual operational and financial scorecard reporting and monitoring
- Ensures practice has real-time financial performance information, working closely with hospital administrative leadership
- Maintains an open line of communication with staff and report on operational and practice status and strategic plans on a periodic basis
- Works with Human Resources to ensure effective human resource management for the practice including recruitment, performance management, employee engagement, training and development, leadership development, as well as compliance with corporate and Divisional human resources policies and procedures
- Partners with the Risk Management and Quality to ensure that processes, policies, procedures, and metrics are properly executed, tracked, and met within the Division
- Work cross functionally to develop fully informed views and insights into the drivers behind the data, and present findings clearly and concisely
- Operational reporting and/or metric analysis if key drivers of revenue and cost for services reviewed
- Operating room reporting, dashboards and preparation of materials to impact change and/or performance
- Accurately gather, synthesize, analyze and communicate timely relevant information to support decision making and to develop process improvement strategies
- Develop strategic plans for revenue cycle resources and ensure goals and objectives are properly defined, implemented, and tracked.
- Perform financial analysis of NPSR opportunities for service line at the location level and identify trends while delivering progressive solutions for innovation
- Analyze fee for service ( FFS) collection trending and proactively seek additional areas of revenue growth for defined service lines
- Aid in creating models that connect strategies to measures of performance
- Identify opportunities for standardization and process improvement initiatives within Revenue Cycle and gain support for ideas and opportunities
- Provide analytical support and develop tools for company operations to enhance their skills in detecting both current and future performance issues
- Prepare narratives, Power Point presentations, graphs and reporting for field operations, clients, finance and revenue cycle.
- Develop and present key insights in ad-hoc reports related to the revenue cycle and quickly pull our salient points

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS |
- Bachelor's Degree from four-year College or University and 7 or more years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Background in performance improvement.
- Background in Anesthesia and practice operations strongly is required.
