I. Position Function:

Performs Ultrasound procedures (Echocardiograms) that follow ultrasound standards in a safe, accurate and timely manner which are necessary to allow physician to make an ultrasound diagnosis. Position is located in an outpatient clinic setting. There is no hospital coverage or call with this position. Position is 8:00 to 4:30 Monday-Friday in a cardiology outpatient clinic.

IV. A. Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

1.) "Provides superior customer service to internal and external clients, customers, and patients as referenced in the Service Excellence Standards."

Operates ultrasonic equipment and performs mostly cardiology and some vascular diagnostic procedures such as cardiac ultrasound (echocardiogram), LEA (lower extremity arterial) study, and carotid ultrasound.

Reviews patient history and other supporting clinical data to facilitate optimum diagnostic results.

Explains procedures to patients to assure cooperation and optimum test results; positions patient.

As an echocardiography technician, your main occupational tasks involve creating images of the heart, cardiac chambers, valves, and vessels for the purpose of assessing heart function and diagnosing heart ailments. You will work closely with cardiologists, performing the technical aspects of the examinations, evaluating the findings, and document them in the EMR system. If critical finding is found, ultrasound technician will report concern to the cardiologists.

Recommends appropriate maintenance and servicing of instrumentation as determined by image quality and/or performance testing results.

Notifies manager of abnormal variances and initiates service call.

IV. B. Responsibilities/Non Essential Functions:

Responsible for the care and treatment of patients ages 16+ which may use Imaging and Diagnostic Services, to include adolescent and geriatric.

Works independently. Performs procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative.

Assumes responsibility for designated areas and/or procedures as required.

Maintains and monitors department supplies.

Continuously strives to develop/improve relationships with all customers.

V. Reporting Requirements:

Reports problems, issues and patient concerns to the Cardiologists.

Reports serious incidents to Practice Manager that may be a conflict to safety or other issues that violate policies and procedures.

VI. Accountability

Accountable for maintaining the confidentiality and security of all hospital related, medical staff related and patient related data and information.

Accountable for abiding by all relevant hospital and department policies and procedures.

Accountable for quality of imaging and associated documentation.

VII. Qualifications:

Minimum Education:

Satisfactory completion of a formal ultrasound program that meets standards of approval for eligibility of registry by ARDMS Registration is required with 1 year of employment.

Minimum Experience:

Minimum 1-2 years’ experience. Must be a graduate of Allied health training program recognized by the ARDMS. Knowledge of anatomy, cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, medical terminology. Knowledge of the principles of ultrasound physics and instrumentation. Knowledge of ultrasound imaging and equipment. Knowledge of universal precautions.

Minimum skills/abilities:

English communication skills are required. Effective interpersonal and communication skills. Basic computer knowledge.

Certification/Licensure:

BLS certification either upon hire or within a 90 day period is required. ARDMS registered or registry eligible with completion within one year of hire date. Registry area should be appropriate to the scope of practice.
