Steward Medical Group (SMG), Inc. is Steward's multi-specialty group practice with over 4,500 employees including over 1,800 physicians and advanced practitioners. SMG operates approximately 450 practice locations throughout Massachusetts, Southern New Hampshire, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida, Utah, Arizona, Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas, and provides more than 4 million patient encounters per year.

Principle Clinical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Discusses patient data with other physicians and professionals as appropriate in a multidisciplinary setting
  • Practices cost effective medicine in an efficient manner, maximizing available resources
  • Demonstrates clinical judgment skills to function in an independent role
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as required by the GYN department/division

Non-Clinical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates professional collaborative and consultative relationships with other providers
  • Follows all designated prescriptive practices and monitoring requirements with the designated supervising physician and administrative report
  • Participates in departmental and organizational committees and programs as appropriate and attends all required meetings, in-services, and professional trainings
  • Maintains superior interpersonal and communication skills as a member of the healthcare team in order to collaborate effectively with patients, families, staff, and community health workers
  • Remains actively involved in continuing education with a commitment to self and departmental growth
  • Adheres to all established safety policies, procedures, and precautions; identifies potential or actual unsafe situations in the environment and takes measures to rectify the situation
  • Demonstrates understanding of procedures, policies, and documentation required to ensure compliance with hospital standards of care
  • Participates in QA/QI projects as appropriate
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as required by the OB/GYN department/division

Inpatient Clinical Duties:

  • Competencies and tasks in routine care of hospitalized gynecologic, urology and oncology patients:
  • Perform admission history and physical exam and accurately record in the patient record
  • Change surgical dressings, including wound packing and vacs, and removal of sutures and staples
  • Write daily progress notes and orders
  • Write prescriptions
  • Implement attending physician instructions for patient management in close cooperation with nursing staff
  • Round with individual team members as requested, report back to team leaders
  • Perform procedures within the NP scope of practice and as directed by the attending physician
  • Order and interpret appropriate laboratory testing and other special examinations as requested
  • Complete discharge summaries and related paperwork
  • Prepare succinct and accurate sign-out to facilitate the smooth transition of patient care among providers
  • Assist in making appropriate post hospitalization appointments and referrals
  • Communicate with referring health care providers and institutions
  • Care of Gynecologic, Urology and Oncology patients
  • Perform pap smears
  • Diagnose and treat common vaginal symptoms such as yeast, BV and sexually transmitted infections
  • Endometrial, colposcopy, vulvar and cervical biopsies


  • Graduation from and accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Current Advance Cardiac Life Support Certification
  • Current Massachusetts license to practice as as Physician Assistant required
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate clinical expertise for functioning in an independent role
  • Excellent interpersonal relationships and communication skills for working with patients, families, and other staff
  • Ability to self-directed and demonstrate initiative in addressing responsibilities of position
  • Ability to completed forms and other paperwork appropriately in a timely
