Steward Medical Group (SMG), Inc. is Steward's multi-specialty group practice with over 4,500 employees including over 1,800 physicians and advanced practitioners. SMG operates approximately 450 practice locations throughout Massachusetts, Southern New Hampshire, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida, Utah, Arizona, Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas, and provides more than 4 million patient encounters per year.

Position Summary: Under the direction of the CFO, the Senior Director of FP&A is responsible for overseeing the FP&A function, which includes budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, financial analysis, and other strategic initiatives. The Senior Director will be a key leader in driving transformational change for a fast-paced and growing enterprise. They will not only oversee a team of highly motivated finance professionals, but will also provide strategic direction for the department and execute on that strategy, including transformational projects such as system standardization and reporting automation through data warehouse tools. The Senior Director will also be responsible for internal reporting, to operations leadership, functional leaders and Corporate senior leaders, and external reporting, to Boards of Directors, investors and other external stakeholders.

Responsibilities also include:

  • Oversee the monthly close process ensuring that all journal entries are booked, accruals are accurate, overhead allocations are correct and budget variances are explained
  • Produce monthly financial statements and financial reports for senior leadership
  • Drive financial performance; schedule monthly operating and financial review meetings, prepare financial reports for those meetings, track takeaways and ensure operating initiatives are completed to improve overall financial results
  • Assist operations leadership with ad hoc financial analysis to identify savings opportunities or revenue enhancement opportunities
  • Responsible for calculating and approving provider compensation calculations and assisting with development of standardized compensation models
  • Help manage revenue recognition team (dotted line to FP&A) and incorporate revenue recognition information and schedules in financial reviews and reports
  • Lead, track, and execute all components of the Steward Medical Group operating budget; provide updates and status reports to senior leadership as needed
  • Assist with developing strategic initiatives that allow SMG to achieve its financial goals as part of the financial planning process
  • Oversee the creation of presentations to various Boards of Directors, Corporate senior leadership, investors and other stakeholders
  • Develop a vision for the department which includes strategic and transformational projects to drive continual automation and work reduction
  • Oversee the data warehouse initiative to produce standardized KPIs, automate reporting and grow on-demand suite of tools and reports for operations
  • Manage a growing team of finance professionals and oversee day to day operations of the team, including:
  • Balance workload among various resources in order to meet deadlines
  • Ensure deliverables are accurate and meets quality standards
  • Plan and prioritize work product and anticipate future needs to adequately manage cyclical department demands
  • Provide constant feedback to staff to ensure continual development and training
  • Ensure the strategic plan, mission, vision and values are communicated to the team and are integrated in its goals, objectives and work
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration required; Master's degree in Health Care Administration preferred
  • 10-15 years of experience as a finance professional; minimum of 5 years in a healthcare setting
  • Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters on a confidential basis
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to adjust to changes and adapt to new processes
  • Ability to research issues and to recommend solutions
  • Advanced knowledge of financial reporting systems, accounting systems and ERPs and exceptional skills in Microsoft Office suite
