Steward Medical Group (SMG), Inc. is Steward's multi-specialty group practice with over 4,500 employees including over 1,800 physicians and advanced practitioners. SMG operates approximately 450 practice locations throughout Massachusetts, Southern New Hampshire, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida, Utah, Arizona, Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas, and provides more than 4 million patient encounters per year.

Position Summary:

This role leads the Steward Medical Group’s (“SMG”) functional month end close process for two large divisions. This person will be responsible for the Company’s purchase accounting work collaborating with real estate, legal, M&A integration teams, finance, operations, and human resources. In addition, policy writing, ASC 842 integration, software integrations, and specific process improvement initiatives will be areas of opportunity to grow and contribute to SMG. Cross-functionalizing with various teams will be integral in the day to day responsibilities for carrying out these responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor other finance associates during the SMG monthly close process, involving:
    • Accounting for leases
    • Purchase accounting
    • Payroll and related liabilities
    • Expense compliance monitoring
    • Sourcing variance analysis for explanation
    • Financial reporting
  • Key contributor to process improvement initiatives to enhance existing financial analysis, close, and reporting tools
  • Lead for all Physician level acquisitions from due diligence to Day 1 accounting
  • Lead the reporting and accumulation of information for the Company’s month end close package sent to senior management
  • Serve as the lead liaison between FP&A and Accounting during budget season and month-end close
  • Assist FP&A for any changes in US GAAP that must be considered for budget purposes
  • Lead budget to actual variance analysis and drive issue resolution to close timely
  • Significant contributor to the implementation of ASC 606, Revenue Recognition, and ASC 842, Leases guidance
  • Serve as the accounting lead project manager for all new and existing projects, inclusive of our upcoming ERP integration
  • Assist the Senior Accounting Manager with the preparation of interim and year-end audit work papers
  • Maintain sensitivity in communicating effectively and respectfully with all members of SMG, the Hospitals, and Corp
  • Maintains the values and philosophy of the mission statement of the company

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance required. MBA/CPA preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience within the accounting field
  • Public accounting or consulting experience strongly preferred
  • Health care experience a plus
  • Supervisory experience is a bonus

  • Vibrant personality, great communication (verbal/written) and organizational skills
  • Advanced software skills (Microsoft office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and experience with ERP system)
  • Ability and desire to work independently and cross-functionally, manage multiple priorities and projects, and meet deadlines
